Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist Training Program in Korea

Abstract
The professional ability of the vocational rehabilitation specialists is critical to provide high quality services in vocational rehabilitation. Their professional ability can be secured through a systematic curriculum development in vocational rehabilitation training program. This study investigated vocational rehabilitation specialist programs in Korea and discussed the programs in relation to previous studies in Korea, CORE Accreditation Manual, and CRCC Certification Standards and the Application Process. The study based on such literature as university bulletins and web-sites. The major results of the study were as follows: First, based on literature review and this study, the curriculum for vocational rehabilitation specialist program could be composed of 36 credits including 18 credits of requirements and electives, respectively. Second, the four undergraduate programs for vocational rehabilitation specialists in Korea were generally satisfied with CORE accreditation requirements except 600 hours of internship. The four programs should be refined to include CORE¡¯s knowledge, skills, and attitudes into the study-units or courses and to extend practicum or internship. Third, the four programs were generally satisfied with CRCC curriculum requirements. Like CRCC¡¯s various categories of eligibility criteria, vocational rehabilitation specialist could be certified through inservice training programs. Other topics such as inservice training curriculum development, consideration of job analysis for vocational rehabilitation specialists in Korea, and legal arrangement on qualification and placement of the vocational rehabilitation specialists were discussed as well.
